CWU Mofeng Calligraphy Association Wins ‘Outstanding Sinology Society from Colleges in China’ Award

Recently, organizers announced the selection results of the “First Chinese Students’ Sinology Competition” awards. Mofeng Calligraphy Association from China Women’s University (CWU) won the title of “Outstanding Sinology Society from Colleges in China”, among four other universities in Beijing that also won the award.

The Mofeng association was established in September 2007. It aims to carry forward Chinese traditional culture and develop the characteristics of CWU. It has attracted a large number of students who are interested in traditional culture and willing to study, practice, and expand their knowledge of calligraphy and sinology.

The association seeks to uphold the teaching of calligraphy and promote the development of traditional culture. Influenced by these values, its members take it as their duty to inherit and expand sinology, and are committed to carrying forward Chinese culture, traditional respect for the elderly, rich campus life, and promoting the construction of good school spirit. It has received consistently high praise from the teachers and students.

The competition was co-sponsored by the Chinese Communist Youth League Central Committee, the All-China Students’ Federation, and the National Working Committee of the Chinese Young Pioneers.

The event aims to meet the spirit of the third and fourth Plenary Session of CPC Central Committee and the important speeches made by Secretary-General Xi Jinpin. In order to develop young students’ awareness of core socialist values, strengthen their value and culture confidence, organizers selected 500 outstanding sinology projects, including a total of: 300 sinology associations at colleges, middle schools and young pioneers teams; 100 educational literature and artworks; and, 100 sinology educational projects in different cities and counties.

This nomination of the Mofeng association was the first put forward into the competition by CWU, and is a result of the university’s efforts in promoting the construction of associations. CWU leaders said they will take the opportunity to further encourage students to participate in social activities, continue to cultivate comprehensive talents needed by society, and take responsibility for students’ lifelong development.
