CWU Students Achieve Great Results in ‘Challenge Cup’ Contest

It was revealed on May 30 that four works among the 15 entries from China Women’s University (CWU) won the top prize in the “8th Challenge Cup”, a Beijing-based contest which highlights excellence among the works of academic science and technology undergraduates. One entry won the second award and six won the third prize-level.

The first-award winners are Chen Mingyi, Li Niru’s team, Xiang Huayi’s team and Xu Shuqiong’s team, all from the School of Gender and Social Development, respectively, with their works “Trauma of the ‘Cancer Village’—A Report on Pollution Control Strategies by Villagers in Yunnan Province”, “Private Town Clinics: Struggling Between National Policy and Market Mechanism”, “Public Memories and Thoughts about Smog—A Case Study of Beijing Residents” and “A Report on Registered Permanent Residences of Non-native Undergraduates in Beijing”.

The second-award winner is Hu Xinwen from the School of Management with her work “Research on the Behaviors of University Students in Social Media Usage”. The six third-prize winners include Jin Meng’s team of the finance department, with their work “Implementation Results of the ACWF Small-loan Project for Rural Women” and Jin Yanqi’s team from the College of Gender and Social Development, with their work “A Report on Student-worker Identity among Secondary Vocational College Students—A Case Study of a University in Hubei Province”.

The awards mark the CWU's greatest achievements so far in a “Challenge Cup” Contest.
They are result of the continuous efforts made by the university’s Youth League Committee in encouraging participation, careful organization and scientific selection.

In October 2014, the “7th Contest of Undergraduate Academic Science and Technology Works” was held in the university with the support of the Youth League general branches of all the colleges. It initially attracted 42 works, with entrants striving for the opportunity to go on to compete in the highest-level, Beijing-based “Challenge Cup” Contest. A group of experts were invited to conduct multiple evaluations of the works, with 19 superior works shortlisted. In May 2015, 15 works were finally selected.

With such remarkable results, the CWU Youth League Committee pledges to sum up its relevant experiences and guide the students in integrating academic study, scientific research and career planning, with an eye to encouraging more to take part in the contest and benefit further individuals. In the long run, a platform will be built for CWU students to work for innovation with even greater passion.
